6 weeks and the cast is off

Yesterday i visited the hospital for my 4 week check up and to see how if the bones in my ankle are healing.

I had myself all worked up before the appointment, I was convinced that I would have to spend at least another 2 weeks in plaster, possibly 8 if the fracture on the left side hadnt healed, I thought my leg would be all scaley, yellow, black, hairy, smelly and generally unpleasant to look at.

To my surprise, I was told the ankle had heeled very well and that the cast would be off, I would be given some physio and then start the walking process again.

The leg looked a bit swollen when the plaster was taken off, the scar from the operation is healing but it didnt look as nowhere as bad as i thought it would.

I went to see the physio at the hospital and she showed me a range of movements which i need to start doing at home. As you can imagine the ankle is very tight and i can only seem to wiggle my toes.

The Physio thinks that I will have full range of motion in my leg in 3-4 weeks thus allowing me to return to my work.

Ladies that lunch

What a lovely surprise, the ladies from work came to visit at lunch time today and we had a picnic in the lounge. It was so lovely to see them and get to talk about no injury related things.

I feel so loved, a lovely retro sweet spray and lovely big card signed by everyone.

They even washed the pots and left the kitchen like they had never been, they can certainly come again. Looking forward to the works Christmas lunch next week and to everyone else.

Hospital tomorrow to have my stitches out and to have a new plaster put on the ankle, i'm sure it'll all be fine, but nervous about seeing my ankle for the first time since the break.

My Cousins Wedding

What a beautiful morning, I'm so lucky I have can attend the wedding of the year today and will enjoy the day with family and friends as much as possible.

First a trip to the hairdressers, it felt so good to have a wash and blowdry, a bit of loght pampering goes a long way.

Quick change, then off to church to see the bride. She looked stunning, like a real princess.

This was proceeded by a reception at Swinfin Hall for Champagne and Canapes, easy on the champagne for me though, not allowed to drink with all of the tablets and injections i'm on.

Dinner was great, the company was great and I even managed a 2 minute boogie on the dance floor

It was a tiring day but everyone really looked after me and made sure I was comfortable, I was so happy I had the opportunity to share the special day with Mr & Mrs Lockett.

Home Sweet Home

It felt so good to be home, wash my hair, clean PJ's and home cooked food.

I think the reality of what had happened had just started to set in and the realisation that the world as I knew it had been turned upside down. No more running for at least 4 months, High Heels for at least 6 months, No stand up showers for at least 6 weeks, No more house work, ironing or general pottering around the house for at least 6 weeks, No driving for 8 weeks which meant that I would not be able to go to work for at least 8 weeks. Also, No holiday to Goa on Boxing day.

What had I done, how could this happen to me, I remembered what one of the nurses said to me in hospital, "everything happens for a reason", what was this reason???

It felt so good to have a cuddle with hubby and to sleep in my own bed, I just needed to work out what my plan would be for the next 8 weeks.

Wednesday morning, New day new start, Hubby left for work what did I do to start this new day? I cried fro 20 minutes feeling very sorry for myself. I needed to snap out of it. I had a lots to focus on and lots of visitors to look forward too.

First of the day was mum and dad followed by a dear friend Hetti who really cheered me up.

Thursday was a trip to the hospital to get admitted to the fracture clinic in Nottingham this went well and they seemed to understand the damage I had done and I felt they understood me.

Now to get some sleep, my cousins wedding tomorrow I must feel 100%.

It all started with a night in Milton Keynes...

Saturday 26th November 2011 - continuing celebratory birthday meal and drinks with friends in Milton Keynes. The night started so well with a lovely meal at Turtle Bay followed by a couple of Mojitos around the hub. As the bars started to close around the hub we looked at continuing the night at the Xscape.

We stopped for one drink at the Moon Under Water followed by heading over to Revolution to dance the night away. Revoultion wanted £8 each to enter the club so we decide to get a taxi back to the hotel. Before we did this, 2 of my friends wanted a ride on the Bungee Ball, being afaid of hights, i declined but did take some pictures, this is when it happened.

It all happened so quickly, one moment i was stood taking a photo, the next, I was on the floor, legs a kimber (and in a lot of pain). Knowing I had done something serious, my husband and friends scopped me up off the floor and got us a taxi to Milton Keynes A&E.

The staff were very helpful and assertive and quickly ascertained what was wrong with me.

After an X-ray and plaster cast, I was told I had dislocated my ankle and fractured the right lateral malleolus in 3 places. within 3 hours I was in plaster and admitted to a ward where i would await an operation the following day.

The doctors, nurses and staff at MK hospital were exceptional and explained everything clearly and really helpful in making sure I was dealt with as a priority.

All that was left to do at 4am was to get some rest and see what tomorrow had in store.

After some rest, I was visited by the consultant who advised I would have an operation to conduct internal fixation and would be in plaster cast for 6-8 weeks. The operation was to be performed Sunday afternoon and fingers crossed I would be allowed home on Monday.

At around 5pm, the nurse came to see me to say they had had to postpone my operation until Monday but on the plus side I could eat a Sunday dinner and get some more sleep.

Monday finally came and before I had chance to think about breakfast, I was wheeled down to Thearter for my operation. I'm not going to lie, I was petrified of being put to sleep but looking forward to be able to go home.

2 Hours later, I was taken back to my room where husband and mum were waiting to see me as was a sandwich and a much needed drink.

Within a coupld of hours the physio came to see me and gave me a trial run out on my crutches and they were happy I could be sent home the next day. I was a very happy lady indeed.

Tuesday morning arrived and so did my discharge note. Hurray, I was on my way home.
